Embroidered tablecloth, 48 x 92 cm., 2016-17

Based on architectural drawings and the mapping of old flour mills, Ella Littwitz created embroidery works carrying her own cartographic language. It is a language of symbols and local motifs, unfolding the experience of a place and its history.

Fine lines connect archaeological sites and memories. They do not reflect the size of the place or the building, but rather testify to an event that occurred. Fragments of life are embroidered, stitch by stitch, turning symbols into the artist's personal testimony. One that is told by word of mouth and one that is told while learning the craft of embroidery.
